3.5 million visitors stayed in Portugal in August alone

Portugal became the reference destination in August this year, with accommodation companies in the country receiving around 3.5 million guests.

According to the Portuguese government’s national statistics office, INE, visitors spent around 10.1 million nights in Portugal in one month, marking the highest monthly turnover ever, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

This number of visitors translates into a total revenue of 878.3 million euros, which represents an increase of 10.4 percent compared to August 2022, with 709.8 million euros coming from accommodation.

On the other hand, compared to August 2019, the increase was more significant – 37.6 percent.

On the other hand, overnight stays increased by 8.4 percent in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period in 2019, with locals and residents contributing to the increase.

Moreover, compared to August 2022, national airports saw a significant year-on-year growth of 13.2 percent in August 2023, an all-time high.

Furthermore, between January and August 2023, there has been a significant 23.1 percent increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period in 2022.

This impressive overnight and passenger numbers are not surprising.
