Apple identifies issues that cause iPhone 15 overheating

Sept 30 (Reuters) – Apple Inc ( AAPL.O ) said on Saturday it had identified issues that could cause new iPhones to heat up more than expected, including a bug in the iOS 17 software that will be updated in the future.

After complaints of the new phone overheating, Apple said the device may be hot for the first few days “after setting up or resetting the device due to excessive background activity.”

“There is another issue related to some recent third-party app updates causing increased system load,” Apple said, adding that it is working with app developers on fixes that are in the process of being implemented.

Third-party applications causing problems include Asphalt 9; META.O Instagram; and Uber, according to the company. Instagram has already fixed the issue in its application on September 27.

An upcoming iOS 17 bug fix will no longer degrade iPhone temperature control performance.

The Cupertino, California-based company says that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max don’t overheat due to their design, but rather that the new titanium cases dissipate heat better than previous stainless steel models.

Apple also says the issue is not related to safety or risk of injury and will not affect the phone’s long-term performance.
